“Gaming devices will be at the centre of the company’s future success” – so feels Greg Joswiak, Apple’s IPhone and iPod Chief. He also feels that the iPod is a better gaming device than the Nintendo DS and Sony’s PSP. He also added that the last quarter was the iPod’s biggest quarter ever, taking into account it was a non-holiday quarter as well.

Says Greg: “So, iPod proved quite impressive and a big part of its success was the launch of the September products. No doubt, we surprised a lot of people with the success of the iPod touch”. He also feels that games are essential to the iPhone and iPod Touch’s success. He added that games have been the biggest category in all the application stores, and that there were more than 1500 games and that iPod Touch customers had a tremendous liking in them.

On the various games available, Joswiak replied – “iPod gaming can’t be categorized just in ‘casual’ games and these games have really surprised a lot of people and the reason is they are not just causal games. You will find there real 3D games and may surprise to note that we are a little over 100 days into it.” He also added that because the iPod is easier to carry, has a touch display and some cool features like an accelerometer that can enhance game play, that devices like Sony’s PSP and the DS from Nintendo are moving into the past of gaming. He also added that the electronic distribution of applications also made life a lot easier for users.

Commenting on the types of games available from the store, Joswiak says: “You will find everything on the store from the casual games to the 3D-oriented games, action games and everything that will make gaming totally changed and far more exciting and joyful experience than ever. Our developers are doing the nice job and working on original content ideas and we are hopeful that they will blow everyone away.”

In conclusion he added that because the iPod Touch will always be in your pocket, the need to carry some other gaming console would be unnecessary.
